AMP Contractors Ltd was tasked with removing a can washing plant and mezzanine inside a working factory in Leicester. The project used mechanical shearing to dismantle the redundant plant and steelwork while the surrounding factory remained operational.
Mechanical removal inside a working factory
Mechanical means were selected to reduce manual handling and reliance on hand-held cutting tools, helping reduce exposure to hand-arm vibration associated with manual cutting implements.
Separating demolition from factory operations
The demolition area was sheeted off from the working factory zone to help contain dust and reduce the risk of it migrating into the operational area.
Metal recovered for recycling
All metal recovered during the demolition works was sent away for recycling. The photograph below shows the mechanical shearing operation inside the separated work area.
